Product Review - Drive Safe RV Video

Drive Safe RV Video

KC's Report

Drive Safe Bouchure I was asked by Tim Wourms to review his video at the RV Owners Lifestyle Seminar at Okanagan College.

Tim, a licensed driver training instructor in Canada, is a 28-year veteran of big rig driving and has been actively teaching for the last 5 years.

I have been RVing for three decades and have pulled boats, pop up trailers, travel trailers and 5th wheels. Over time, my wife (Karen) and I developed our own pre-trip inspection routine. Tim's information on pre-trip inspection is more comprehensive and applicable to towing RVs of any length and weight. This information should be a requirement for all who value safety and wish to reduce the risk of any mishaps on the road.

Historically, I drive and my wife navigates. Since Karen did not drive the tow vehicles as we changed RVs, she feels uncomfortable pulling our 36-foot 5th wheel. In case of emergency, we would like her to get some experience towing. Based upon experience, I know my instructing and coaching Karen would not go well. I thought this video would help her learn from a professional instructor (and keep me from freaking out as a back seat driver).

Typical hands-on driver training costs anywhere from $200-$500 and would require 4-6 hours from her busy schedule. This video allowed her to get instruction and then to practice (yes, with me navigating!). We were both working off the same knowledge base which helped us both.

"This video allowed me as a navigator to become familiar with different adaptions the driver has to make when towing" said Karen.

The video is nicely divided into 9 sections: Introduction, hook up and unhook, pre-trip inspection, cornering, intersection, observations, road position, downhill and backing up. Tim goes through each section while driving, with clear instructions, so it feels like you are in the vehicle with him.

The instructions apply to all types of RVs or trailers: pop-ups, boats, travel trailers, 5th wheels, class C and class A motorhomes. He provides great tips that are easy to understand and apply. Let's just say, I picked up a few myself.

The video also comes with a handy pre-trip inspection booklet you can keep in the glove compartment as a reference.

Please check with your local driving regulations to ensure that all drivers meet the legal requirement before driving your RVs on the road.

All this for a low price of $29.99 is a bargain!

Happy RVing,

KC
